Amiko Mantha started playing the Double Bass as a junior in high school. Since then, he has acquired nearly ten years of experience studying, performing, and teaching the bass. In this time, he has attained an Associates in Music from Skagit Valley College and Bachelors in Double Bass Performance from Western Washington University.

Playing in orchestral settings for most of his bass playing career, Amiko has been a part of the Skagit Symphony (2016-2017), WWU’s Symphony Orchestra (2018-2021), the Marrowstone Music Festival (July-August 2019), and the Bellingham Symphony Orchestra (since 2017), in which he is currently a member of the BSO Chamber Players and Acting Assistant Principal Bass. His range of experience also includes Opera, Musical Theater, Band, and Historical Performance. A few such engagements include the Bellingham Symphony’s 40th anniversary performance, The Mount Vernon Theater Arts Guild’s production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, and various ensembles at WWU, such as the Wind Symphony, the Opera Department, and the Collegium Musicum (a chamber ensemble dedicated to the performance of early music literature). Recently, he has also subbed for the Mt. Baker and Fidalgo Youth Symphonies.

Amiko has taught bass to band and orchestra students in Mount Vernon public schools as a vetted district volunteer. He currently runs a private studio in Bellingham. and has taught students in Middle and High School, as well as Adult learners. His Pedagogical influences include Jeff Bradetich and Francois Rabbath. Amiko’s teaching style has also been influenced by his teachers which include Ben Musa, who has played bass for Pacific Northwest Ballet and Seattle Opera; Patrick Neher, acclaimed former Professor of Double Bass Studies at Arizona State University; and Dylan Palmer, Principal Bass for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
